Our photographic journey began when Gayle retired in 2016 and asked for a camera as a retirement gift.  When we told a camera salesperson that our main interest in photography was to be when travelling, we selected the Olympus system for its increased portability due to its size and weight.  Our first camera was the OMD EM 5 with two beginner lenses.  This is what we took with us on our first two trips.   When Neil took 95% of the photos on our trip to Australia, we decided it was time for a second camera.  We bought the OMD EM 1, with a few more features.  It wasn't long until we realized we need two of these cameras and a few more advanced lenses to go with them.  In March 2022, Olympus came out with their new OM1, with many more features, including starry sky autofocus and built-in neutral density filters.  We took this camera on our trip to the Yukon, switching it halfway through the trip.  After Gayle had her turn, she wasn't going to give it back, so we had to get another one.  We now have duplicate lenses with two shared specialty lenses.  It is costly to have us both doing photography, but that is balanced by the fun we have together 'out in the field'.
